Thorleys End Signal Box 16mm Scale

Purchased this kit last week, and was impressed by how well it was packed. First impressions upon opening the bag reveal excellent detail pieces and and a nice colour booklet. I had no problem building the kit, and decided to put it together first using selotape to make sure everything fitted. The most refreshing part about building this kit is that all the wall pieces are dead flat and butt up against each other squarely. Once I was happy with where everything was I began gluing everything together permanently using loctite slow set. I found it easier this way as you have time to adjust the pieces before they set solid. There was a few areas where I used some Tamiya liquid filler where there were gaps and the odd air bubble to make things right before painting. I picked up some grey primer paint from Halfords and put two coats of this on which went on lovely by the way with no runs. I chose to do the brickwork with humbrol number 70 paint as recommended in the booklet which I must admit is spot on. The only thing I found difficult was the mortar lines. I chose to highlight these by using a small pointed piece of metal I had in my toolbox and then running it along the mortar lines. It is a bit time consuming but the end result is nice. Once I finished the main paintwork I finalised everything with a matt laquer, again from Halfords. This is a really nice kit and suits perfectly on my 16mm layout.
